Fresh Apple Salsa
When you think of salsa a chunky, spicy tomato condiment probably comes to mind but you can actually make salsa out of almost any fruit. Tomatoes are actually a fruit even though we serve and eat them as a vegetable.
Ingredients
- 2 medium tart red apples
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- ¼ cup finely chopped sweet onion
- 2 teaspoons minced jalapeno pepper
- 1 teaspoon fresh minced ginger root
- ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro leaves
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions
- Prepare cored, unpeeled apples either by chopping them finely by hand or in a food processor.
- Place the apples to a medium sized bowl. Toss the apples with lime juice so that it covers them and keeps them from turning brown.
- Prepare the remaining ingredients, add them to the apples and stir. Cover the bowl and place it into the refrigerator to chill for up to two hours.
To serve, add two tablespoons of the apple salsa over cooked hot dogs.
